I watched the the trailer for Beyond the Black Rainbow and was inspired by the delicious navy/scarlet color palette, so I decided to apply it to my favorite subject. This is really nothing more than a glorified doodle, but I like the simplicity. Not to mention, I've wanted to do more design-oriented pieces lately.
Edit: fixed some parts up a smidge. Hit refresh! Drawn in Paint Tool SAI Textures & editing done in CS4
Although simplistic, it's stunning. The dark dark blues next to the bright red make it really pop. This would make for a nice poster or print.
But I have a touch of critique, that I hope you don't mind me giving. I really enjoy the placement of the head, but her body seems a tad off, not anatomy wise, just pose wise. Her (Just assuming female) head seems stable, and so does her upper body, but the lower body has some kind of flow to it that makes it like she is swimming, or that her butt is trying to make a escape. But this is a nice piece with great flow all of the same.
I really love the colours, they're really complimented by the grainy filter you used (although you do overuse those a tad), I like the effect on the crown. There's a little lack of fidelity with the details; you've skimped on the legs and the hands look a bit crushy, but it's pretty great overall, the evil grin on his (?) face is really nice, puts me in mind of old disney villains.
I came back after breaking from the computer and decided to fix it up a bit, including making it look more "finished" by adding some detail to the legs (hit refresh :3). The shape was more important than details, which is why I initially didn't fuss too much, but taking a second look it did look... er, "skimped" on. Can't agree with the hands though, as they're supposed to look like croc feet which are rather flat and awkward looking.
